Pegcetacoplan and Avacincaptad for Geographic Dry Macular degeneration
Pegcetacoplan (SYOFOVRE™) and avacincaptad pegol (IZERVAY™)are intraocular injections that can slow geographic atrophy's progression. Your eye care specialist will inject these medications directly into your eye either monthly or every other month.
Both are FDA approved, but neither approved in the UK yet.
At ARVO 2024 USA major eye meeting the 36 month extension study for Pegcetacoplan was presented
with favourable outcomes and good saftey profile.
Both drugs are not "wonder drugs" like those for Wet AMD, but they have a moderate effect on
slowing the growth of GEA dry AMD.
I think there is a role for these drugs and I look forward to having them approved in the UK
