AMD Update

AMD Update

This month three new updates for Macular degeneration service.

Mr Lee started using Anti-vegf for Macular degeneration in 2007 so has over 15 years experience

in using these drugs. There is now a wider than ever choice of drugs to choose from.

This month  UK and NICE approval for Faricimab (Vabysmo, by Roche) was granted.

This is an exciting development and Mr Lee looks forward to using it. Potentially few injections

are needed.

2. 31 G needle for Intravitreal injections is here

Having injections into the eyes for Macular degeneration, Diabetic macular odema

or Vein occlusions is becoming increasingly common.

It is generally not a painful procedure but anything we can do  to minimise the discomfort

is a good thing.

Reducing the size of the injection needle from the tiny 30 Gauge  to 31 Gauge

means the needle is even finer and so less painful. Only just available in the UK market

Mr Lee is now using the thinner 31G needle and so far is finding patients notice the difference.
