Cessation of Rapital - Nedocromil

Cessation of Rapital - Nedocromil 2% eye drops

This was my favourite mast stabilising drop for allergic or hayfever conjunctivitis.

Sadly has been discontinued.

Alternatives for my patients would include

Na Cromoglycate is the traditional mast stabiliser but has to be given four times per day, or for mild disease just as needed. Useful in the form of unit dose eg Catacrom.

Alomide Lodoxamide  Mast stabiliser 0.1% is alternative to Opticrom – Popular with External disease consultants.

Opatanol Olopatadine is a new mast stabilising drug and antihistamine which does not sting and is licensed for children over 3 years old.

Zaditen Ketotifen is a new eye drop.

Do not suffer with red itchy eyes, use appropriate eye drops.
