Mr Lee has always been very keen to reduce the common complication after cataract surgery of "Irvine-Gass Syndrome" or Macular odema after surgery.
He believes that this complication which if no measures are taken to prevent this at the time of surgery, affects anything from 4% to 20% of patients undergoing cataract surgery.
The disappointment of patients who seemingly have had a perfect operation done by a perfect surgeon is what drives Mr. Lee to publises this preventable complication.
Since 2000 Mr. Lee and his team at The Hillingdon Hospital have given all their Cataract patients the simple non steroidal eye drop "Bromfenac (Yellox) or Nevanac (Nepfanac)" on a routine basis.
The reduction of this complication has gone from 50 cases per year down to virtually zero. The eye Department sister (Amar) commented that the reduction has been Dramatic.
Mr. Lee has had an article published in the Eye News Journal last month which explains the scientific rational and studies that show how beneficial these simple drops can be.
The article is on the Site under Lectures 2015 if you wish to read the full article.
